It’s National Picnic Week (18th-24th June), which gives you the perfect excuse to escape the dingy office at lunchtime and enjoy some tasty food in the sun (yes it appears to be back!) It’s also a great way to spend a lazy saturday/sunday afternoon. With many top london eateries and shops offering ready-made hampers, there’s really no reason why not…
Picnic2u – A British Basket
Your one-stop picnic shop. There’s six different themed summer picnics to choose from, “The British Basket”, “The Lawn Hamper”, “The Sporting Hamper”, “The Olympicnic”, “The Ascot Box” and “The Jubilee Picnic”, (Prices from £45-150). Alternatively you can create your own unique picnic from a choice of dishes and beverages.
Fortnum & Mason – Posh picnic
F&M’s fresh picnics are packed with fine food, from smoked salmon to Eton Mess. Try a “Jubilee Picnic” (£40) or an “Outdoor Feast”. (£85) There’s also a “Three-CoursePicnic” (£100) for a more formal affair.
Mori – Sushi party
For something slightly different to the traditional English picnic, you can grab a sushi “Party Box” from Mori. Including a selection of around 20 sushi pieces, wasabi, ginger and chopsticks, each box will feed 3-4 people (approx £25). For solo picnicers there’s also a choice of smaller sushi boxes, (approx £7).
The Mount Street Deli – Pie in the park
You can choose from a selection of salads, sandwiches, pies, cakes and patisseries. You can also include soft drinks and champers in your little parcel of joy. When making an order just make sure you give 48 hours’ notice. (Costs approx £30).
York & Albany – Let Gordon treat you
Enjoy a Gordon Ramsay picnic, devised by the chef and his team at York & Albany. These three-course picnics cost £21 per person and can also include half bottles of wine and champagne if you fancy a boozy one. To give the chefs enough time to work their magic, make sure you order 24 hours in advance.
